Urban Motors, Audi TT RS Roadster

If a vehicle model – such as the BMW M4, the Mercedes -AMG C 63 or the Audi TT RS – is available both as a coupé and a convertible, then performance tuning or even club sport projects are usually based on the closed variant. After all, the coupés are lighter and stiffer than their open-top counterparts, which gives them considerable advantages on the track.

However, if you are prepared to make slight compromises in this respect, then the power of such performance projects can also be fully enjoyed “open air”. This is underlined for example by this Audi TT RS Roadster, which has been visually and technically upgraded at Urban Motors from Eschweiler near Aachen.

The compact-chunky body is now trimmed with a complete kit from Audi Sport’s own performance parts portfolio. The “Aerokit 1” installed by Urban Motors includes a front splitter, flics, side sills and cW elements, a rear diffuser as well as a “suspended” rear wing, which evokes the current DTM cars. With their characteristic shimmer and highgloss black, the new real carbon fiber parts contrast with the dark red Audi exclusive special paint job on the roadster.

Urban Motors gave the 2.5 L five-cylinder turbo engine, which sits under a new front hood with a carbon air vent, an SLS tuning stage 3 performance boost from the factory 400 hp and 480 Nm to now 510 hp and 650 Nm. In addition to software optimization, the power upgrade also includes the installation of a 90 mm downpipe with HJS catalytic converter modules and a new intake system with a K&N air filter mat.

Needless to say, the suspension technology of the four-wheel drive vehicle also received fitting upgrades: Urban Motors has bolted shiny black OZ Leggera HLT light alloys in 9×20 inches all around to the axles, which significantly reduce the unsprung and rotating masses compared to the standard technology. Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires in the size 255/30R20 have been fitted. The lowering produced by a KW V3 coilover suspension benefits not only the appearance but also the driving dynamics. The latter can of course also be influenced by the adjustable compression and rebound damping of the KW V3.

While the TT RS was already factory-fitted with a carbon/ceramic brake system at the front, Urban Motors retrofitted one at the rear. In the absence of a suitable off-the-shelf rear-axle counterpart, Nils Urban and his crew reached here into the parts shelf of the big brother Audi S7 and adapted its rear axle brake system to the TT RS. The brake calipers have also been wrapped in bright red all around. Last but not least, the Urban Motors team has naturally also taken care of the TÜV approval and the proper entry of all vehicle modifications in the documents.
