Fast becoming the default tyre of British club motorsport, Toyo has added yet another front-running racing series to its portfolio with the announcement that the burgeoning Super Cooper Cup will now run exclusively on Toyo R888 tyres.
Another new series on the calendar, the Super Cooper Cup has been created by successful race driver and motorsport preparation ace Eliot Dunmore, with a view to creating a fast, competitive series that offers a realistic opportunity for novices to come into the sport at sensible cost, as well as giving enough challenge and entertainment value to more experienced drivers looking to perhaps move across from a more expensive form of motorsport, without compromising on thrills.
Based on the powerful and sporty BMW MINI Cooper S R53 model, and running in full supercharged trim, the cars run a control package of tuning parts which brings the output up to an impressive 210bhp. As a base car, the R53 is very sensibly priced, reasonably plentiful, and has great spares back-up. Add into this the fact that the chassis offers superb handling, and you’ve got the basis for great racing. The new series will run under the auspices of the 750 Motor Club.
Alan Meaker, Technical and Motorsport Director for Toyo Tires UK commented, “We’re so pleased to be working with Eliot and the Super Cooper team for the 2015 season,” he said. “This series really has the potential to be quite spectacular, and the cars make great power. A car with a great chassis, like the R53 Mini, really responds well to a tyre like the Proxes R888, so I think we should see some great lap times and close racing throughout the season.”
Eliot Dunmore was also clearly delighted with Toyo’s support. “Toyo have been superb in the run-up to this season,” he said. “Alan Meaker of Toyo UK has shown a keen interest and given great support in the project right from the start of testing the prototype car during 2014. We are very pleased to have TOYO TIRES as the supplier of the control tyre for Super Cooper Cup and we’re looking forward to a great year together.”
