Spa 24 hours pole-winning Chevrolet CamaroThe Chevrolet Camaro Z28 that started the 1981 Spa 24 Hours from pole position will race for the first time in over 30 years at the Goodwood 73rd Members’ Meeting on March 21-22nd next year.

The ex-Serge Power Camaro will be one of 30 machines contesting the Gerry Marshall Trophy, which is held in honour of the saloon racing cult hero of the 1970s, and features Group 1 touring cars of upto-1982 vintage.

Resplendent in its Bastos livery, the car, which was raced by Formula 1 podium finisher Reine Wisell, Claude Bourgoignie and John Cooper at Spa, but did not make the finish, has been entered by Goodwood regular David Clark.

The machine that started alongside the Camaro on the front row at Spa – and went on to win in the hands of Tom Walkinshaw and Pierre Dieudonne – an ex-TWR Mazda RX-7, will also contest the race, while former British Touring Car Championship front-runner Patrick Watts will campaign a rival RX-7 with Ian Cowley.

With BTCC race winner Rob Austin already announced in a Ford Capri III 3.0 alongside his father Richard, Goodwood can now confirm that an ex-Jon Mowatt Mini, as raced in the series in 1980, will also take part.

The vivid Jagermeister orange will be raced for the first time at Goodwood as a 1981-spec Ford Escort RS2000 joins a Sanyo Rover SD1 3500 – a combination made famous by Jeff Allam’s BTCC exploits – and a 1977-spec BMW 530i carrying the decals of UFO Jeans.

Revived in 2014, the Members’ Meeting at Goodwood harks back to the days of the BARC events held from 1949-66 at the West Sussex venue and provides sensational motor racing in front of an exclusive audience.

Tickets, which are available to Members of the Goodwood Road Racing Club, give visitors to the event access all areas, allowing them to watch, eat and drink with the star drivers and celebrities in attendance. A limited number of tickets can also be purchased by non-Members, subject to availability.
