Silverstone ILMC race to host UK's biggest digital slot car track

Silverstone will host the UK’s biggest ever digital slot racing track when the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup (ILMC) rumbles into the British Grand Prix circuit on September 9-11.

The British importer of leading slot car manufacturer, SCX, will construct a 50-metre long, six-lane circuit in Silverstone’s paddock for the British round of the ILMC, the Autosport 6 Hours of Silverstone.

While 50 powerful sports prototype and GT cars thunder around the 3.6-mile Silverstone Grand Prix circuit, visitors will be able to test their own skills with 1:32 scale versions of the Audi R10 and Peugeot 908 HDI LMP1 racing cars on a track that features a 10-metre main straight.

On Saturday September 10, the miniature track prepared by slot car importer AEC, will host a competition featuring slotcar enthusiasts from all over the UK drawn from online slotcar forum,

Unlike traditional slot car sets, digital tracks use the latest technology to allow lane changes, pit stops and race strategies involving tyres and fuel stops.

Among the technical innovations on display at the SCX track will be:

  • Pit stop computer controls
  • Xenon effect lighting
  • Guide flags with suspension for precision cornering
  • Adjustable set-up on cars, including tilting chassis and removable magnets

Among the ILMC drivers who will try their hand at the 1:32 scale racers in arguably the original racing game during the weekend is Playstation 3 gamer, Lucas Ordonez, who won the Nissan GT Academy, an online gaming contest, to win the chance to become a fully-fledged racing driver. He currently races for the Nissan Signatech ILMC squad.

Any media wishing to take on the gamer-turned-racer at the original racing game at 2pm on Thursday Sept 8 should contact Andy Bothwell at Performance PR on 0208 541 3434 or email

Weekend tickets are available at the advance booking price of just £29 for the three days or £23 for Sunday, including paddock access and grandstand seating, available from or 0844 3750 740. Children 15 and under go free.
