The UK well and truly embraced the high-revving charms of performance Hondas many years ago, and the company’s Type R badged machines have been big sellers here ever since. The latest Honda to wear the iconic red badge is also one of the most hotly anticipated performance cars of recent years; the Civic Type R. Already being heralded as one of the greatest of all time, the all new Civic Type R features forced induction, active aero and a huge amount of electronic trickery. Always swift to act upon the launch of a new model, Remus has just announced a brand new exhaust system for the Type R, one available with a choice of tail pipes and equipped with Remus’s game-changing Powerizer and Responder functionality.
The core of the new Remus exhaust consists of a 70mm resonated cat-back section (10mm wider than the OEM equivalent), leading to sports centre section centred for left/right, all with integrated valves, the latter controlled via a remote control unit. This allows the customer to toggle the volume of the exhaust from inside the car, meaning that it can be as loud or as quiet as the situation demands and therefore negating any concerns over volume.
Remus firmly believe that tuning a car should as much about self-expression and individuality as it is about sheer power and noise, and this explains why their new Civic Type R exhaust system can be specified with a choice of tail pipe styles. The first and cheapest option consists of four 102mm angled, straight cut tail pipes, all four finished with in attractive chrome that will provide long lasting protection. Those seeking to really make a statement with their exhaust system should look to the second option, a quad of carbon tail pipes with titanium internals, again angled at 102mm. Both come with an adjustable spherical clamp connection.
As is the case with all Remus systems, the quality of the workmanship involved is second to none, well above that of offerings from other manufactures and even rivalling OEM levels of fit and finish. Extensive testing of the systems on Remus’s own development Civic has revealed a noticeable increase in performance across the rev range, plus a truly sensational exhaust note that manages to be aggressive without ever becoming overpowering or obtrusive.
Remus exhaust systems offer performance benefits thanks to their careful design and carefully honed gas flow properties, but Civic owners can also take advantage of one of the company’s other significant developments, the Powerizer. Designed for those seeking more performance from their car without having to go to the trouble of extensively modifying their engine internals, the Remus Powerizer can boost peak power by as much as 25% and torque by a hefty 20%. These amazing improvements are achieved thanks to the Powerizer’s ability to toggle the engine management parameters in real time, optimising the nature of the map multiple times per second in order to ensure peak gas flow at any given time.
There’s an added benefit to the Powerizer, one that perhaps isn’t as obvious as the performance advances, and that’s improved fuel economy. The added torque created lower down the rev range means the engine doesn’t have to work as hard to propel the car along the road, resulting in improvements in MPG. Remus’s trained technicians optimize the Powerizer to suit the needs of the customer, though the instructions included with each kit allow for it to be adjusted at a later date should the need arise, and all by simply pushing the clearly defined buttons on the control unit.
Finally there’s the Remus Responder, another innovation that’s been designed to improve the driving experience and complement the firm’s exhaust systems. As the name implies, the Remus Responder improves throttle response by adjusting the accelerator pedal output signal, resulting in noticeably reduced response and reduced lag. Easily and swiftly installed between the OEM pedal sensor and the OEM connector, the Remus Responder can be unpacked, fitted and up and running in minutes, and all thanks to the true plug and play technology at its very heart. The Responder operates using sophisticated adjustable programming profiles, technology that can lead to improved fuel consumption and more efficient engine running, while the four user-selectable and customisable performance settings give drivers greater freedom to tune the system to their specific needs.
There’s a strong argument that we’re currently enjoying something of a hot hatch purple patch, with the likes of the Focus RS, the A-Class A45 AMG and, of course, the Civic Type R all serving to redefine what’s expected of the sector. We’ve little doubt that the Civic Type R will go down as one of the finest examples of the breed thanks to its consummate blend of power, style and handling, and the addition of a Remus exhaust system can only accentuate this. Those keen to explore the true performance potential of their Type R should take the time to contact Remus.
System prices start from £1,240.00 plus VAT.
