Additional Info: The 914 was built by both Volkswagen and Porsche. There were 2 versions, the VW versions originally had an 80bhp 1679cc engine (0-60 in 13.9, 1/4 mile in 19.2), while Porsche versions had the 110-125bhp 1991cc engines from the 911T (also note that the Porsche version used many superior Porsche parts). In 1971/72 Porsche used a 95-100bhp fuel injected 1971cc engine (0-60 in 9.0-10 secs, 1/4 mile in 17-18 secs). The 1.7 was replaced by a 76bhp fuel injected 1793cc engine in 1974 (0-60 in 12.7, 1/4 mile in 19.4). A Porsche 916 prototype was created, but never made it to production (see last 2 pics). |
