Melling Sports Cars was founded in England by Al Melling. Al an engine designer, has been involved in motorsport since the early 60’s and worked on the TWR V12 Jaguar engine and TVR V8 engine and also got involved in Formula One as a consultant. Al has also been involved with motorcycle design, fashion clothing and numerous other businesses.

In 2007 the Melling Hellcat concept car was built to be the fastest street legal car in the world, but did not make production. Also during this year Melling made an attempt to buy TVR.

In 2008 the focus was set on the Melling Wildcat a more cost effective high performance car, but a recession halted its progress, so in 2009 Al moved the business to Portugal, with the hopes of setting up a factory, unfortunately Al’s wife unexpectedly passed away and Al then sold the company to Dillys Wilkinson, but still stayed involved with the company.

There seems to be a 2 year gap, with not a lot happening and then in 2011, Al setup MCD (Melling Consultancy Design) Partnership with Phil Egginton and Beverley Ellison of Peninsula Motorsport to carry on developing and manufacturing racing engines, performance engines, racing cars, transmissions, suspension systems etc. But again this seems to have fallen by the way side for the time being.
