KTM LogoBrief History About KTM

KTM was founded in 1934 in Austria by Hans Trunkenpolz. They are in fact well known motorcycle manufacturers, especially with off road bikes. The KTM name was used from 1953 (Kronreif & Trunkenpolz Mattighofen), when Ernst Kronreif bought a large share in the company and Mattighofen is the place of the HQ.

In 1992 the company was split into 4 groups, one for motorcycles, one for bicycles, one for radiators and one for tooling.

In 2008 they built the X-Bow (cross bow), with the help of Kiska Design, Audi, and Dallara. The X-Bow was shown at the 2008 Geneva Motor Show. It is basically a track car, but can be bought for street use.
