Hyundai LogoBrief History About Hyundai

Hyundai Motor Company was founded in 1967 in South Korea by Chung Ju-yung. Chung Ju-yung had previously founded an engineering company in 1947 before creating the motor company. Kia Motors forms part of Hyundai as the Hyundai Motor Group.

In 1968 they built their first car – the Ford Cortina – yes Hyundai worked with Ford and started selling the Cortina as its first car. When they decided to build their own cars, they hired British engineers, designers and management and Italian designer Giorgio Giugiaro and built the first Korean car in 1975 called the Pony, which incidentally used a Mitsubishi engine.

Hyundai had great success exporting various cars to Canada and USA early on and have now expanded throughout the world building many factories to cope with the demand.

In the new millennium they made great improvements to quality control and are now one of the biggest auto manufacturers in the world.
