Brief History About Gumpert
Gumpert was founded in 2004 in Germany by Roland Gumpert, who was previously the Director of Audi Sport.
In 2001 Roland Gumpert worked on a prototype sports car with Roland Meyer. The brief was to build a road legal track car. With the help of Marco Vanetta (design) and The Technical University of Munich (construction work, computer simulations, and wind tunnel tests), the Apollo was born and production began in 2005. A prototype new car was also attempted in 2010/2011 called the Torante, but didn’t happen.
Unfortunately in 2012/2013 a major investor pulled out, which subsequently led to the company having to file for bankruptcy. However Gumpert is planning a comeback with a new car/cars, yet to be seen.
