Milltek’s latest stainless steel exhaust system is aimed squarely at those lucky enough to have their name atop the logbook of the all new Ford Mustang, specifically the Euro-friendly 2.3 EcoBoost model. Consisting of a 70mm cat-back centre section with various tail pipe and downpipe options available, the exhaust looks set to be a must have product for those seeking improved performance and sound from their S550 Mustang.
The 2.3 EcoBoost system has already found favour with a number of UK Mustang tuners, largely thanks to its design and the performance benefits it’s been proven to offer. Starting with a specially designed adaptor for the OE downpipe, the 70mm system then proceeds to a front silencer, a pair of left and right axle pipes, followed by a choice of silencers depending on whether the exhaust has been specified with dual or quad outlets.
The range opens with a pair of resonated, dual outlet, cat-back systems, one featuring polished GT-100 tips measuring 100mm in diameter, the other the same diameter but finished in Cerakote black. Those seeking more volume should look to the next systems in the Milltek portfolio, one with a selection of three cat-back quad tail pipe options, all with distinct tail pipe finishes. Customers can select from black GT-90, polished GT-90 or titanium GT-90 tips, all 90mm and all requiring a Roush rear valance to have been installed previously in order to fit correctly. Those seeking even more noise should look to Milltek’s non-resonated systems, all of which are noticeably louder and are therefore not for shrinking violets. Customers can pick from a pair of dual outlet setups (one with a polished 100mm tip, the other in Cerakote black), or from three quad pipe systems, all available with black, polished or titanium 90mm tips.
Milltek’s various exhaust options for the 2.3 EcoBoost Mustang have been augmented by the addition of a turbo-back exhaust option, effectively meaning that any of the systems covered above can be supplied in this form. Those choosing a Milltek Sport turbo-back exhaust system for their car can then opt to spec it with a high flow 200 cell sports cat for maximum flow with full road legality. This sports cat can also be ordered alone to fit either the OEM rear system or full MIlltek set-up.
The Mustang system has been designed to give tangible increases in both power and torque across the rev range, while its mandrel bent construction promotes efficient gas flow properties. Power is only part of the equation though, with Milltek’s decades of experience having left the firm in the enviable position of being able to craft a system with a note that is nothing if not balanced.
“We’re in the advantageous position of having been able to develop this system on an early car, in-house – an opportunity we’ve made great use of,” explains Milltek’s MD, Steve Pound. “The result is a system that manages to be both subtle and purposeful sounding with excellent gains in both power and torque.”
