With the clock ticking down to the start of the hotly anticipated 2015 24 hour Barcelona race, exhaust manufacturer Milltek Sport is looking forward to what might be another stellar event for this veteran endurance racing team.
Fielding its own hugely successful Golf once again, Milltek had an enviable endurance record to protect in the diesel class. Despite currently leading the points standings, the team has made the dramatic decision to radically change the spec over to a potent 380bhp 2.0 TFSI petrol engine instead. Not only do they have more power, but the car’s latest iteration also uses running gear from the latest Golf Mk7 – including a grippy 4WD drivetrain! Clearly keen to maintain its winning run, and now in the SP3 class, the firm has once again teamed up with experience prep outfit KPM Racing in order to build a quick, yet reliable car. Added to this, Milltek will also be fielding one of its strongest ever driver line-ups to date, with the all-English quintet of Lucas Orrock, Tom Wilson, Dale Lomas, George White and Aaron Mason all sharing seat time to hopefully take the Golf to yet another podium spot.
In the prestigious A6 Class, Milltek ambassador and test driver Tom Onslow-Cole (TOC) will be fronting another talented driver line-up in another very successful car; the Ram Racing Mercedes SLS AMG GT3. Joined by fellow Brit and regular partner Paul White, German Thomas Jaeger and experienced Dutch wheelman Jeroen Bleekemolen – who has no less than thirty-seven 24H events under his belt, Onslow-Cole has more than the usual stress riding on his shoulders for this round. With a fantastic season behind him, TOC has the opportunity to wrap up his championship title campaign at Barcelona. Following second place finishes in the first three rounds of the championship, including the highly competitive season-opener in Dubai, and a win at Paul Ricard in July, the Milltek Sport-sponsored driver has his sights set on the top step of the podium at the Circuit de Catalunya – and, if all goes to plan, he could leave with more than just the trophy for this event!
Commenting on this year’s impressive campaign at Barcelona, Milltek Sport managing director Steve Pound said. “Endurance racing is a hugely important part of our R&D function and global branding programme and we always look forward to Barcelona in particular. I really think that our team line-up this year is one of the best we have fielded. The Golf has been prepped superbly by KPM, and although anything can happen in 24 hours, if all goes to plan, we’re quietly confident of a great result this year. It’s also wonderful to see our ambassador and test pilot TOC doing so well too, and we’ve all got everything crossed for him and the team at RAM racing to get another great result here in Catalunya.
Barcelona 24 Hours starts at 1200hrs local time on Saturday 5 September and will be live streamed on the 24H Series website: www.24hseries.com.
