Derbyshire-based exhaust manufacturer Milltek Sport celebrated the launch of its smart new HQ complex and recent factory expansion with a well-attended open day at its Pride Park site last weekend. In addition to its smart and impressive head office, the respected firm has recently updated and improved its nearby Ilkeston factory in order to cope with unprecedented overseas orders and domestic demand.
Staffed by petrolheads, Milltek understandably owns an enviable collection of development vehicles and classic cars – So, naturally, these all came out to play in the sun during the day. Parked up they looked pretty impressive, but when started up to showcase the exhaust technology beneath, they really were quite the spectacle. Cars as diverse as the Peugeot 205 GTI, Audi UR Quattro and VW Golf GTi (in both Mk1 and Mk2 guises) pleased the retro purists, while the modern charms of some of Milltek’s modern development cars; the latest Honda Civic Type R, BMW M4 and Audi RS7 ticked the boxes for fans of more modern metal. As the exhaust system of choice for the Audi aftermarket, the company’s RSQ3 and SQ5 were also proudly displayed.
Also on show were all of Milltek’s classic and performance exhaust systems and trim options. Each one is manufactured here in the UK, and the firm was keen to showcase the hand-finished craftsmanship and exemplary build quality that it employs on all of its designs. Tech-heavy systems like the firm’s ‘Valvesonic’ exhausts were also on display. With a barbeque smoking enticingly all day, guests were made to feel most welcome by Milltek managing director Steve Pound and his team of sales, design and technical experts – all of whom were on hand to offer fitment and tuning advice to both dealer and end-user guests.
As well as the fleet – and food – the real star of the show was Milltek’s dazzling new HQ, of course. Resplendent in its corporate red, white and black hues, it represents the company’s bold new direction in the global aftermarket. With a burgeoning order book in all markets, and a real confidence in demand for its many forthcoming products, Milltek is clearly looking good as it squares up for 2016. Backed up by the improved facilities and production capacity down the road at its Ilkeston factory, spirits were evidently high amongst the Milltek team.
Milltek Sport’s very own Volkswagen Racing Cup star Lucas Orrock was also on hand to meet fans, chat with technicians and generally soak up the sun and atmosphere. As someone else who is clearly looking forward to 2016, many were wondering whether the talented wheelman could turn his two previous runner-up spots into a win in the next year.
Commenting on the day, Steve Pound said, “It has been a wonderful way to officially open our new offices, and I’d like to thank my team, our dealers and customers for taking the time to attend today. It’s been a great opportunity to chat about what we have in the pipeline for next year, and it’s always good for everyone to see that we’re investing significantly in improving our products and services to our customers. With our new HQ and the factory enhancements, we’re in great shape for 2016 – and with so many pivotal new cars on the horizon –and on their way to our R&D workshop – we really do have some exciting times ahead.”
