  • McGurk Performance Cars experiencing increasing interest from ULEZ-located buyers seeking enjoyable, ULEZ exempt sports and supercars
  • A ULEZ compliant Aston Martin can be bought from as little as £35,000, which is less than the price of a new electric Volkswagen ID.3
  • Most post-2006 Euro 4 standard petrol cars are ULEZ compliant
  • A London, ULEZ-located, customer recently approached McGurk Performance Cars wanting to trade in their Tesla for a Bentley

Independent specialist car dealer, McGurk Performance Cars is experiencing increased interest in its stock of sports and supercars as ULEZ (Ultra Low Emissions Zone) located customers seek out interesting, affordable, and desirable ULEZ compliant vehicles. Owner, John McGurk, explains: “recently we’ve been getting more and more enquiries from people seeking out ULEZ exempt cars, with one customer even approaching us about trading in their Tesla for a Bentley.”

With many ULEZ-located drivers having to replace their existing cars to avoid payments to drive in cities with low emissions zones, some of them are looking for more interesting and exciting cars to own. “What a lot of people don’t realise is that you don’t have to buy a new car to escape the daily charge, with most 2006-onwards Euro 4 specification petrol cars being ULEZ compliant. That means you could buy one of our used Aston Martins for less than you’d pay for a new electric car,” explains McGurk.

With many ULEZ-located buyers driving infrequently, a used luxury, sports or supercar could prove to be a very astute purchase. “Running costs for these cars isn’t as expensive as you might think, and unlike a new car you don’t have to worry about the huge early cost of depreciation,” says McGurk. The London customer who brought a Tesla to be traded in against a Bentley claimed that on-street parking meant difficulty in conveniently charging their electric car, and they had decided they wanted something that would be enjoyable to drive on longer, weekend trips out of the city.

“Many are surprised that the majority of the performance and luxury cars we buy and sell are in fact ULEZ compliant, meaning you could own something interesting, beautiful and enjoyable while still complying with the current regulations. Of course, I’m biased, but I know what I’d rather drive,” says McGurk.

London is the most widely known ULEZ scheme, but other cities including Birmingham, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Bristol and more have ULEZ or CAZ (Clean Air Zones) already in operation, with proposals for more to be rolled out in the coming years.
