Eight Lister competition cars took part in the Sussex Trophy on the final day of the 2015 Goodwood Revival – with the race producing a fantastic fight between Chris Ward in a 1959 Lister-Jaguar ‘Costin’ and Bobby Verdon-Roe in a 1960 Ferrari 246S Dino.
The pace was frenetic from the start with Ward and Verdon-Roe battling hard in the early stages, before Verdon-Roe managed to pull out a lead, which he held to the finish line, taking the chequered flag just 3.5-seconds ahead of Ward.
Finishing behind the 1959 Lister-Jaguar ‘Costin’ of Ward, entered by JD Classics, was Sam Hancock in a 1958 Lister-Jaguar ‘Knobbly’ – one of five ‘Knobbly’ models in the race. David Hart finished seventh in a 1959 Lister-Jaguar ‘Costin’, while finishing in 11th, 12th and 13th respectively were Roberto Giordanelli in a 1958 Lister-Chevrolet ‘Knobbly’, Steve Boultbee Brooks in a 1958 Lister-Jaguar ‘Flat Iron’ and Shaun Lynn in a 1958 Lister-Jaguar ‘Knobbly’.
Kriton Lendoudis came in 18th place in a 1959 Lister-Chevrolet ‘Knobbly’ while Helmut Rothenberger finished in 22nd place in a 1958 Lister-Jaguar ‘Knobbly’.
The field also featured a stunning array of period machines including several Jaguar D-types, a Maserati Tipo 61 ‘Birdcage’ and an Aston Martin DBR2.
Lister has produced a limited run of ten continuation ‘Knobbly’ cars. The reborn ‘Knobbly’ is built to the very same specification as the original 1958 ‘Knobbly’, using the late Brian Lister’s original drawings and manufacturing jigs.
All ‘Knobbly’ models are built to meet relevant FIA racing regulations and are powered by a race-prepared Jaguar D-Type 3.8-litre straight-six, producing 330bhp. Although all ten are now sold out overwhelming response from enthusiasts and the historic racing community has meant that Lister is considering a number of final special editions.
