Kumho assists Andy Burton posted on 24 May 2011
Kington-based rally driver Andy Burton and co-driver Robin Kellard scored another fine win on the Plains Rally (May 14) to retain their place at the head of the 2011 Silverstone Tyres BTRDA Rally Series – they currently lead Paul Bird and Kirsty Riddick by 12 points, with four rounds remaining.
Burton and his well-known Kumho-shod Peugeot Cosworth are certainly in fine form again this season, but were pushed very hard on the Plains rally by Hunter and Marchbank in their ex-Colin McRae Ford Focus WRC01, who finished just five seconds behind the Burton/Kellard pairing after a crucial error less than two miles from the rally’s end.
Kumho continues to have strength in depth this year and other runners driving its products to success on the Plains event include David Wright/Michael Wilkinson who took their Mitsubishi Evo 9 to fourth overall and first in class, and Dylan Davies/Dale Furniss who rounded out the top 10 in their Subaru Impreza. The next round of the BTRDA Series is the Dukeries rally on June 11.
Said Kumho’s European Motorsport Manager Steve Thompson, “This year’s championship is certainly hotting up and it’s good to see our gravel tyres playing a key role in the proceedings. We await the next event with interest.”
