Import Number Plates

Import Number Plates: If you own or are thinking of buying/importing an import vehicle into the UK, then there are some things you need to know about number plates for them.

The DVLA currently states that Import vehicles with a design that cannot accommodate a standard size number plate and does not have a European Community Whole Vehicle Type Approval can use the following font size:

• Character height 64 mm
• Character width 44 mm
• Character stroke 10 mm
• Character stroke 10 mm
• Space between characters 10 mm

These sizes are the same as a motorcycle number plate. But beware that this only applies to vehicles that meet the above criteria, no exceptions.

Also remember most import vehicles will have a 2 row numbering/lettering configuration on their back bumper/tail gate.
