Until the new M3 comes onto the market, the M340i xDrive is the provisional top model of the current BMW 3 Series G20/21. Since last July, this dynamic Bavarian has been ready and raring to go with a factory-fitted 3.0-liter sixcylinder turbo engine packing 374 hp and 500 Nm and has become a firm favorite among the BMW M Performance models for fans of the oft-cited “Sheer Driving Pleasure”. The engineers at G-POWER, who have been specializing in performance enhancements for BMW models for over 35 years, have worked their magic on the M340i xDrive and are now offering a three-stage program of performance upgrades for this alpha specimen.

Even with G-POWER’s “starter solution” – the GP-420 performance software – the B58B30TÜ1 engine of the M340i xDrive now delivers a whopping 420 hp and 600 Nm. This puts it on par with the series F80 M3 (431 hp / 550 Nm) and yet, thanks to the factory-fitted 4-wheel drive, even this popular BMW is left in the shade when it comes to driving performance: The new-and-improved M340i xDrive, available for €1,695, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4 seconds. Furthermore, the responsiveness and torque delivery of the turbo engine have been noticeably improved and the fuel consumption can be reduced thanks to the optimized efficiency of the engine. All factory-installed engine protection and diagnosis functions have been left untouched.

Of course, this all applies to the next power stage as well, which now packs 470 hp and 650 Nm thanks to the GP-470 performance software (€1,995) from G-POWER. With this much firepower, the car needs a G-POWER sports downpipe made of high quality stainless steel with 200-cell metal catalytic converter (€2,250), which reduces the exhaust back pressure and thus the exhaust temperature and improves the responsiveness of the turbocharger, and a stainless-steel valve exhaust system (€3,927), which blasts out a deep, powerful roar from its four black-brushed 90-millimeter tailpipes with staggered outer pipes.

The current leader of the G-POWER performance enhancements for the BMW M340i xDrive is the GP-510 performance software (€2,450), which also requires a G-POWER upgrade turbocharger (€3,390) in addition to the hardware upgrades already mentioned. Thanks to its enlarged compressor and turbine wheels and the enlarged, CNC-milled housings, this turbocharger forces through a great deal more air than the series version and is suitable for higher boost pressures. The result is up to 510 hp and 690 Nm – more, even, than the radical F82 M4 GTS had to offer.

G-POWER is also offering a Vmax increase (€495) for all M340i xDrives in combination with the performance software, which you will also be able to see with an extension of the speedometer scale to 330 km/h (€395). You can also get the striking orange boost pressure and intake pipes made of sturdy aluminum and the sports air filter inserts composed of multi-layered cotton wool that increase the throughflow of air. The overrun fuel cut-off, which was deactivated in the more recent M340i models, can also be reactivated if desired.

To cap it all off, the experienced BMW tuners are also offering their popular HURRICANE RR forged rim in 20” format, which fits on the M340i xDrive perfectly, looks good, and enhances performance further by reducing unsprung and rotating masses.

Acceleration values:
GP-420 / 0-100 km/h: 4.0 seconds
GP-470 / 0-100 km/h: 3.8 seconds
GP-510 / 0-100 km/h: 3.7 seconds

Top speed:
300 km/h (electronically controlled)
