Orange has always been the characteristic color in G-POWER’s Corporate Identity (CI) concept. No wonder – psychologically speaking, orange is a stimulating, performance-enhancing color. Of course, orange is also used as a warning color. In other words, orange stirs up precisely the right associations for G-POWER. Since 1983, the brand has become known for outstanding performance-enhancing overhauls of top BMW M models. In this context, orange says: “Caution! High performance!” And, in light of the top speeds of some specimens given the G-POWER treatment, it’s worth pointing out. One example of a G-POWER product touching serious top speeds is the new M5 F90 HURRICANE RS.

Its pace is made possible by some major performance enhancements. Instead of the standard ratings of 625 hp and 750 Nm, the S63 4.4-liter Bi-Turbo V8 in the upgraded HURRICANE RS now delivers 840 hp / 618 kW at 6,600 rpm. The maximum torque of 1,050 Nm is available in a wide speed range from 3,100 to 4,500 rpm. As a result, the HURRICANE RS takes just 2.5 seconds to tear up to 100 km/h and has a top speed breaking the 350 km/h mark. That’s probably a long way short of what the HURRICANE RS is capable of, but G-POWER has limited its top speed in view of the tires.

G-POWER achieved this boost of 300 Nm and 240 hp compared to the standard M5 – and 215 hp compared to the M5 Competition – through a combination of GP-840 performance software complete with top speed increase (€4,990) and numerous hardware adjustments. For a start, G-POWER swapped the ex-works turbochargers with more powerful, upgrade versions (€5,990). Added to that are sport downpipes with 200cell sports cats (€4,860) and a titanium exhaust system with four carbon fiber tailpipes, each measuring 100 mm (€8,449).

That said, simply boosting performance isn’t the be-all and end-all for G-POWER. Instead, the decisive factor for this experienced team is creating an all-round package that ensures perfect drivability – and that’s something that figures and extreme torque alone can’t achieve. Preserving the character of a sports motor is at the heart of G-POWER development work, not blindly focusing on packing as much torque as possible under the hood. At the same time, G-POWER places importance on reducing the thermal load on the engine to maintain its reliability and durability despite the performance upgrades. The high torque also makes it necessary to completely re-tune the transmission.

Unlike some competitors’ products, G-POWER’s upgrade turbochargers combine larger compressor wheels with enhanced turbine wheels and CNC-milled housings. Intelligent lightweight design and additional details reduce the inertia torque and achieve an outstanding flow rate.
