Double podium secures the Scirocco R-Cup title for Lisowski
Posted on 21 September 2011
With a pole position and two podium finishes at the weekend’s races in Oschersleben, Germany, Polish driver Mateusz Lisowski has claimed the 2011 Scirocco R-Cup title in style with one round still remaining.
The 21-year old claimed pole for the first race of the weekend, before driving from lights to flag to secure his fourth victory of the campaign. A third place in race 2, finishing behind Aditya Patel and Junior champion Moritz Oestreich, marked an impressive ninth consecutive podium finish for Lisowski.
The sole British driver on the grid, 19-year old Daniel Lloyd, continued to impress during his rookie season claiming sixth and fifth places respectively. These strong results mean that Lloyd is still in contention for second place in the championship going in to the final round.
Lizowski’s championship victory follows Kris Heidorn who won the inaugural Junior and overall titles in 2010.
The Scirocco R-Cup is the world’s most eco-conscious one-make cup reducing CO2 emissions by 80 per cent with a grid of identical cars fuelled by bio-natural gas and, as in 2010, has supported the German DTM calendar.
The 2011 Scirocco R-Cup season concludes with Round 10 which takes place at Hockenheim, Germany over the weekend 21-23 October.
