The iconic marque’s brand-new championship will see a grid of 20 racers competing in 13 races at the former home of the Turkish Grand Prix, Intercity Istanbul Park.
The series offers racers an ‘Arrive & Drive’ format, giving both local and international drivers the opportunity to have their cars fully race-prepared and operated by Intercity. All competitors will pilot identical Caterham Superlight R300 models, pumping out 180bhp, ensuring fiercely competitive racing.
Racing starts in April 2016 and will consist of six two-race weekends, before a one-race season finale in November.
Powered by a two-litre, 180bhp engine and equipped with a Sadev 6-speed sequential gearbox, the R300 is the pinnacle of Caterham’s motorsport programme.
Below the R300 series, a progressive ladder of championships is offered in the United Kingdom, accommodating for drivers of all abilities. Novice drivers begin in the Academy series and are provided support to progress through to ‘Roadsport’, then ‘Tracksport’ and then ‘Supersport’ with only minor upgrades to their cars required.
Caterham’s Chief Technical & Motorsport Officer, Simon Lambert, said: “Motorsport is ingrained in Caterham’s history. Following last year’s successful debuts of the Colombian and Malaysian race series, as well as the continued success of the French championships, it is incredibly rewarding and exciting to bring our unique brand of exhilarating racing to another new and highly receptive audience.”
