Car Electricial Tools
OK this is quite a basic list of car electricial tools.
Older classic cars are generally straight forward, newer cars can be a nightmare. I tend to leave the more complicated and even not so complicated stuff to an auto electrician.
However I have listed a few useful tools below.
Battery Charger
Many batteries nowadays are supposedly maintenance free and some are even sealed units. But having a battery charger is always a handy thing to have lying around, especially if you have a car that only gets used now and again.
Hydrometer
For checking your battery strength.
Jump Leads
It's always a neighbour or work colleague isn't it!, Just have one about, saved me pushing a car many a times!
Feeler Gauges
Gap those spark plugs correctly.
Extension Lead
Well, how else are you going to plug your tools into a power supply outside?
Wire Crimper
For crimping, splicing and cutting wires.
Multimetre/Autoranger
A multimetre can measure voltage, current and resistance, get one that measures at least 20 amps.
The Autoranger is a multifunction electrical test meter, which has a tachometer, dwell meter, hi-lo voltage, current and resistance reader.
Tachostrobe
Used for checking the engines ignition timing. This one used to belong to my dad. Older cars didn't have the advantage of electronics to help them maintain good engine management, nowadays the engines management system can retard or advance the ignition timing as required.
