Car Abbreviations

With all these new electronic gadgets added to modern cars nowadays, is it any wonder that vehicle adverts look like a script out of Star Trek!

Automotive manufacturers seem to employ all sorts of devices and gizmos for our vehicles. We have driving aids for safety, handling, stability, traction control, braking, parking, in-car gadgets for climate control, cruise control, Satnav, electric this, electric that. Multiple engine types, such a VVTI, Vtec, TDI, SRI, HDI, the list goes on. There also seems to be a trillion (exaggeration) names for other devices and parts.

And on top of all that, each manufacturer uses a different name for the same thing!

Traction Control = TC, TCS, ASR, TRACS……….

Is it any wonder we all get confused! Well I’ve put together a list for you, it may help you write some confusing car adverts. Probably not everything here, but it's more than you will find elsewhere, I'm sure.
