A peak power output of 537 kW / 730 horsepower (720 bhp), a peak torque of 1,065 Nm (785 lb-ft), and an electronically limited top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph): at the Moscow International Automobile Salon BRABUS presents the BRABUS B63S – 730, a top-flight high-performance luxury sedan based on the Mercedes S 63. The exclusive equipment features include aerodynamic-enhancement components with a markedly sporty design, forged BRABUS “PLATINUM EDITION” 21- or 22-inch wheels, a high-performance braking system with carbon ceramic discs, and custom interior accessories.
BRABUS offers the world’s most extensive engine tuning program for Mercedes-Benz automobiles. With special mapping for injection and ignition as well as a moderately increased boost pressure the plug-and-play BRABUS B50 – 520 PowerXtra CGI performance kit unleashes an extra 65 horsepower from 4.7-liter eight-cylinder Biturbo engine of the S 500.
After the conversion, power output jumps from 335 kW / 455 hp (449 bhp) to 382 kW / 520 hp (512 bhp) while peak torque grows to 820 Nm (604 lb-ft). With it, the four-door car accelerates to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.2 seconds. The BRABUS Vmax unit allows limiting the top speed electronically to 250, 275 or 300 km/h (155, 168 or 186 mph).
Three power upgrades are available for the S 63: the BRABUS B63 – 650 PowerXtra CGI performance kit boosts the power output of the 5.5-liter eight-cylinder Biturbo engine to 478 kW / 650 hp (641 bhp). The most powerful option, the BRABUS 850 6.0 Biturbo increased-displacement engine, delivers a whopping 625 kW / 850 horsepower (838 bhp) and a peak torque of 1,450 Nm (1,069 lb-ft).
The best-selling BRABUS performance kit for the S 63 is the B63S – 730 version presented at the motor show in the Russian capital. To realize the tremendous power increase by 107 kW / 145 horsepower (143 bhp), the BRABUS engine specialists employed state-of-the-art test bench technology to develop and test an extensive power pack for the V8 engine. Two special BRABUS turbos with larger compressor unit generate a higher boost pressure than the two production turbochargers.
BRABUS Gold Heat Reflection sheathing for the intake and charge-air pipes stands out immediately upon opening the hood. What’s more: by lowering the charge-air temperatures they are a factor in the engine’s optimized power output and enhanced stability. In addition, larger carbon-fiber air ducts improve the engine’s supply of fresh air.
The engine conversion also comprises special BRABUS mapping for the engine management system and a free-flow exhaust system with metal catalysts and 75-mm (3-in.) thick downpipes. As the ideal complement to the performance kits, BRABUS offers a sport exhaust system with controlled butterfly valve for the S 63. At the push of a button on the steering wheel drivers can choose whether to operate the V8 in a quiet “Coming Home” mode or enjoy a markedly throaty exhaust note in the “Sport” position. With its two ceramics-coated dual designer tailpipes the stainless-steel exhaust also adds some striking visual highlights.
The BRABUS B63S – 730 engine is lubricated with MOTUL high-performance motor oil, and sets itself far apart from the rest with a peak power output of 537 kW / 730 horsepower (720 bhp), on tap from a low 5,300 rpm, and an electronically limited peak torque of 1,065 Nm (785 lb-ft), which is available on a plateau between 1,750 and 5,000 rpm. In conjunction with the SPEEDSHIFT PLUS 7G-TRONIC transmission it offers a fascinating symbiosis of dynamic spirit and acceleration prowess.
A sprint time of 3.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) is equally peerless in this category of cars as is the sprint to 200 km/h (124 mph) in just 10.8 seconds. Traction and handling can be optimized further with an optional BRABUS multi-disc limited-slip differential with a locking rate of 40 percent. With a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph) the BRABUS B63S – 730 bests the production car by a whopping 100 kilometers per hour (62 mph).
At the high speeds this car effortlessly attains the aerodynamic properties are of course also a crucial factor. To minimize negative lift on front and rear axle and to create an optimal aerodynamic balance, the BRABUS designers developed a sporty-elegant body conversion kit. The components, which are manufactured from PUR plastics and carbon fibers, give the luxury sedan a dynamic visual upgrade and optimize aerodynamic efficiency.
The front bumper of the S 63 receives some added visual pizzazz with the BRABUS front spoiler lip and the front bumper attachments. What’s more: the shape of the clear-coated carbon-fiber aerodynamic-enhancement components was optimized in the wind tunnel to reduce negative lift on the front axle, which also plays a part in the further improved handling stability at high speeds.
Both front fenders are upgraded visually with a clear-coated carbon-fiber BRABUS design element that comes with a matt or mirror finish. The integrated BRABUS logo can be optionally illuminated. The lighting is activated with the keyless remote or by pulling on a door handle.
The LEDs integrated into the underside of the BRABUS rocker panels light up at the same time. The underfloor lighting makes approaching the car safer in the dark, and helps to avoid stepping into a pothole or puddle. Likewise illuminated – optionally with changing colors – are the BRABUS stainless-steel scuff plates for all four doors.
The BRABUS aerodynamic-enhancement concept is rounded out with the BRABUS rear spoiler lip and the rear bumper with integrated clear-coated carbon-fiber diffuser and tailor-made cutouts for the BRABUS sport exhaust.
Another factor in the thrilling designer look for the Mercedes S-Class and in the even safer and more dynamic handling is constituted by the custom-tailored BRABUS Monoblock alloy wheels with diameters of 19, 20, 21 and even 22 inches. Forged BRABUS “PLATINUM EDITION” alloys of sizes 9Jx21 on the front axle and 10.5Jx21 at the rear are available for customers looking for a 21-inch tire/wheel combination. They have a choice of three different designs: mirror-polished Monoblock VI wheels with six double spokes, Monoblock F wheels with cross-spoke design and the new Monoblock R wheels with dimensionally offset pairs of spokes. High-performance tires from Continental, Pirelli and YOKOHAMA of sizes 255/35 ZR 21 at the front and 295/30 ZR 21 on the rear axle were chosen as the optimal rubber.
Alternatively BRABUS offers a 22-inch tire/wheel combination for the S-Class. The BRABUS Monoblock G “Platinum Edition” forged wheels come in size 9Jx22 with size 255/30 ZR 22 tires on the front axle and in size 10Jx22 with 295/25 ZR 22 tires at the rear, and make full use of the available space below the wheel arches.
To be able to further improve the dynamic handling of the high-performance luxury sedan BRABUS has developed a special control module for the car’s air suspension. It lowers the ride height of the BRABUS B63S – 730 by about 15 millimeters (0.6 in.) without compromising the outstanding ride comfort.
Maximum stopping power is even more important than exceptional acceleration, and consequently the technical highlights of this vehicle include the BRABUS high-performance braking system with anthracite 6-piston aluminum fixed calipers sporting a gold BRABUS logo, and vented carbon ceramic discs measuring 380 x 34 millimeters (14.9 x 1.3 in.) on the front axle. The carbon ceramic discs were developed in cooperation with specialist brake manufacturer Brembo. They are made of an entirely new material. The new composition and material of the brake disc drastically increases its thermal conductivity. This results in considerable better performance of the braking system, much better than can be achieved with conventional brakes.
The interior of the show car for the Moscow International Automobile Salon was refined with the sporty BRABUS aluminum upgrade featuring pedals and door-lock pins, as well as with stainless-steel scuff plates with backlit BRABUS logo.
