The B16 range of fully adjustable suspension has long been one of BILSTEIN’s most popular offerings, and this is largely thanks to its broad spread of abilities and affordable price. The latest model to benefit from the B16 range is the BMW E36 M3 (both 3.0 and 3.2 iterations), a car that remains one of Munich’s most beloved offerings.

Faced with the unenviable task of replacing the all-conquering E30 3-Series, the BMW E36 M3 was launched to much fanfare back in 1992, and though it’s taken a few years for the model’s performance capabilities to be fully acknowledged and appreciated, it’s now well on the way to classic status. Many are still driven in the way BMW intended; hard, and there are thousands still plying their trade on the race tracks of the world, an environment that demands the last word in damper technology.

The sheer versatility of the B16 package makes it suitable for both road and circuit driving, and therefore perfect for E36s that will be driven to, on and from track days on a regular basis, or those that prioritise chassis brilliance and handling poise above all else. The ability to toggle between the ten pre-arranged settings by simply twisting a dial means that they can be tweaked to suit the individual requirements of a specific car, while the threaded bodies offer an adjustment range of 20mm at both axles, along with lowering of approximately 30mm (front) and 50mm (rear). All B16 coilovers feature BILSTEIN’s highly regarded gas-pressure and mono-tube upside-down technology, plus carefully wound springs, the latter specially developed specifically for the performance versions of the E36.

The intrinsic adaptability of BILSTEIN’s B16 suspension ensures that they’re well suited to all types of performance driving, and E36s shod with these dampers will be every bit as at home on the public roads as they on the race track.

Longevity is as important to BILSTEIN’s technicians as overall performance, and as such all uprights in the B16 range come with a number of features intended to promote a long working life. Evidence of this commitment to reliability can be found in the disc springs and lock nuts, all of which have been manufactured from a special aluminium alloy, and the Triple-C-Technology®surface coating, again intended to imbue the B16 range with outstanding corrosion resistance properties.

The ultimate upgrade and the last word in damping technology, BILSTEIN’s B16 range looks set to be a must-have product for those E36 M3 owners seeking to dramatically improve the handling characteristics of their machines.
